Way back in 2000, I created an extended article on charkha spinning. It contains info on materials, tools, and techniques to create cotton yarns on these specialized spinning wheels. As far as I know, it's still one of the most complete articles available on the web.
Anyway, please feel free to download the PDF file:
Charkha spinning (about 1.4 mb)
I later expanded this info in an instructional DVD distributed by Copper Moose productions:
Charkha Spinning: Tips and Techniques
(This isn't a plug to buy the DVD. But some people have asked me about it.)
NOTE: If you're looking for the information about how to put together an Indian box charkha, I'll be reconstructing that article soon.
Hi Elaine,
Thank you very much for your charkha tutorial! Whereas I already knew how to spin on a charkha, the bit about fluffing up punis was new to me - and doing it makes all the difference in the world to my spinning! Please continue with this blog!
Bye, Klara
